It is permissible to compose amatory poetry about an unspecified woman, provided two conditions are met: that the woman is unspecified, meaning her explicit name or anything that distinguishes her from others is not mentioned; and that the amatory poetry does not contain descriptions that incite lust. As for composing amatory poetry about an unspecified foreign woman, this includes any woman who is not one's wife. It is permissible for a man to compose amatory poetry or prose about his wife, provided that it is private between them and that nothing is published from it that describes her beauty which is forbidden to reveal or is indecent.
