What is the ruling on playing or allowing children to play the widespread and various electronic games, such as those produced by companies like Sony and Nintendo and others?

The basic rule for electronic games is permissibility, unless they include something forbidden or distract from a religious obligation. Among the forbidden things are: depicting a war between good people on Earth and evil people from the heavens, glorifying the cross, extolling magic and sorcerers, harboring hatred towards Islam and Muslims, glorifying disbelievers, depicting nudity, gambling, music, harming the body, instilling violence and criminality, and corrupting a child's reality with illusion and fantasy. It is not permissible to compete for a prize in them because they are not among the tools of jihad.
