Why do we call the Qur’an – that is, the Word of Allah – "Nafsiyy" speech?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

The Quran is truly the Word of Allah, not a psychological concept, nor a meaning subsisting in His essence. It does not resemble the speech of created beings. Allah revealed it to His Messenger as a revelation, and it is uncreated. From Him it began, and to Him it will return. Allah spoke it in reality, and it comprises both its letters and its meanings. It is not permissible to say that it is merely a narration of Allah's speech or an expression of it.
