Will Allah cast me down from a certain rank if I sin, then quickly seek His forgiveness and repent to Him?

Sin affects a servant's standing with Allah, but a penitent and remorseful person may become better than they were before the sin, especially if the sin caused them humility and brokenness that impelled them to strive in acts of obedience and repentance. Ibn Taymiyyah mentioned that penitents are of three types: one who does not return to their previous rank, one who returns to it, and one who returns to a higher rank. This depends on their earnestness and determination after repentance. If their effort is greater than it was before the sin, they return in a better state and a higher rank; if it is similar, they return to their former state; and if it is less, they do not return to their previous rank.
