What is the story of Umayyah bint Qays Al-Ghifariyyah and her necklace?
Umayyah bint Qays Al-Ghifariyyah was a female Companion who witnessed the Battle of Khaybar. She narrated that she went out with women from her people, accompanying the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to Khaybar to treat the wounded and assist the Muslims. On her way, she experienced her first menstruation, which stained the saddlebag of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, instructed her to clean it with water and salt. When Allah granted victory in Khaybar, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave her a necklace and told her that it would never leave her. She willed that it be buried with her, and she used salt for her washing and purification.
