Why did Allah (the Exalted) say in Surat Aal 'Imran: "So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the excellence of the reward of the Hereafter," and not "and the most excellent reward of the Hereafter"?

The "good reward of the Hereafter" in the verse refers to Paradise, and it is also said to mean Allah's pleasure and mercy. This is, without disagreement, the best of rewards. It is expressed as "good" to increase the desire for it and to indicate its superiority and merit, and that it is what is truly valued by Allah the Almighty.
