Is love and emotional conversation between a man and a woman over the internet unlawful (haram) or permissible (mubah)?

Acquaintance and love relationships between young men and women via the Internet or otherwise are a gateway to evil and corruption. Exchanging words of love and flirtation is not permissible. In fact, some jurists have stipulated the prohibition of speaking with a non-mahram woman without necessity, because it is a source of temptation. If someone loves a non-mahram woman, he is not permitted to exchange words or correspondence with her. The legitimate way is to approach her family to propose to her and marry her. If marriage is not possible, then they must turn away from this attachment, purify themselves through marriage, and occupy their time with what is beneficial. Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen mentioned that the legitimate way to deal with such love is engagement then marriage, and that it is not permissible to communicate with her in private before the marriage contract, nor to exchange love messages and calls, due to the temptation involved in that.
