The answer

A Muslim should frequently remember death, for it destroys pleasures. The grave speaks every day, saying: "I am the house of strangeness, loneliness, dust, and worms." The grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of Hellfire. Among the means of remembering death are: frequent recitation and contemplation of the Quran, feeling a sense of shortcoming in fulfilling one's duty to Allah, visiting graves because they remind one of the Hereafter, and keeping company with the righteous who help a servant obey Allah and make him renounce worldly desires.
