What is the religious ruling regarding the marriage of a 22-year-old young man who practiced sodomy since the age of 13, then repented and wishes to marry to avoid returning to sin, knowing that marriage may negatively affect his studies and displease his parents?

The crime of sodomy is one of the most heinous crimes. Allah punished its perpetrators by overturning their village. Islam mandates the killing of both the active and passive parties. Whoever committed this sin must offer sincere repentance by abandoning it, feeling remorse, and resolving never to return to it, for Allah accepts the repentance of those who repent. To strengthen one's repentance, one should hasten to marry, which becomes obligatory for those who cannot resist sin. Obedience to parents is not required if they oppose marriage that prevents one from unlawful acts, because "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator." One should try to convince the parents; if they insist on their refusal, then one should proceed with the marriage and not be concerned about its impact on studies.
