The answer

is obligatory on money saved for furnishing a house if it reaches the (the minimum amount on which zakat is due) either by itself or by combining it with other owned wealth, and a full lunar year (hawl) has passed on it. The amount of zakat is one-quarter of one-tenth (2.5%). Zakat must be paid for every year it was not paid. The mixing of money with other funds does not nullify the obligation of zakat. Furthermore, it is not permissible to deposit money in an interest-based (usurious) bank except out of necessity.
