Is it permissible to accept money in exchange for facilitating the acquisition of land from an influential person, knowing that this will not be accomplished for anyone other than the solicitor except through his mediation?

It is not permissible to take payment for acts of mediation and intercession, because it is either outright bribery or bribery disguised as influence. The blessing of influence should be shown gratitude for by interceding for others without charge. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever intercedes for his brother with an intercession, and then he is given a gift for it, and he accepts it, he has approached a great door of usury." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against the temptation of wealth and cursed the briber, the bribed, and the intermediary. Whoever disposes of Allah's money unlawfully, for him is the Fire. The Ahl al-Sunnah have agreed that taking money without a legitimate Shar'i right is immorality and forbidden. The spread of bribery corrupts morals and hinders transactions, and one should avoid such earnings.
