Is it unlawful to accept money and gifts after performing a delivery, given that I am a midwife?

If you are a midwife working in a hospital or a specific institution and you receive a salary, then it is not permissible for you to request payment for delivering a baby, as it is part of your obligatory work. However, if they willingly offer a gift, there is no objection to accepting it.

If you are not an employee and you work as a midwife for those who request your services, then this can be either for a fee or voluntarily: 1. For a fee: The fee must be known to both parties; otherwise, it would be a void contract of hire, and you would be entitled to a customary wage (the wage of someone who does similar work). If the fee is known and they wish to give you something extra, there is no objection, and it is considered a gift. 2. Voluntarily: You are not entitled to demand anything, and if something is given to you, it is permissible for you to accept it, as it was reported that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that the leg of the sheep from the aqiqah be sent to the midwife.
