Devoting qurb (acts of devotion or closeness) to the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, is a religious innovation (bid‘ah shar‘iyyah) and an intellectual folly. The Companions, who loved him more, did not do so. Intellectually, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, receives a reward equivalent to that of every righteous deed performed by a servant because he guided to good. Therefore, dedicating the reward to him only deprives the donor. This innovation appeared in the fourth century and was rejected by scholars. True love for the Messenger lies in following him, his , and his guidance.
