What is the ruling on fearing to complete a marriage due to deaths that occurred during the engagement period, and how should one act regarding that?

The woman's guardians should hasten to marry her off if a suitable suitor proposes, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "If someone whose character and religious commitment you approve of comes to you, then marry him. If you do not do so, there will be tribulation on earth and widespread corruption." And his saying: "Three things, O Ali, do not delay: the prayer when its time comes, the funeral when it is present, and the single woman when a suitable match is found for her."

Delaying marriage due to fear of the death of relatives is not permissible and falls under the forbidden ill omens. What is prescribed is performing Istikhara (prayer for guidance) and then proceeding with the matter.

We advise you to strive to convince your family and possibly seek help from some relatives or righteous people. If they insist on refusing, you have the right to take the matter to the Sharia judge so he may marry you off or order your guardian to do so.
