Is it permissible for me to seek help from charities to pay off my accumulated debts, knowing that the reason for them is my secretly borrowing from work and taking an interest-based loan? And will my prayer for relief be accepted in this case?

Your disposal of money without its owner's knowledge is a betrayal of the trust that Allah has warned against. You must repent, return the money, or seek the owner's forgiveness. Persevere in supplication, for it is answered when the conditions for a response are met and impediments are removed. Among the authentic supplications for settling debt and removing anxiety are:

1. The supplication for anxiety and sorrow: "O Allah, I am Your slave, son of Your male slave, and son of Your female slave. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment upon me is assured, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name belonging to You which You have named Yourself with, or taught to one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or You have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the dispeller of my anxiety."

2. The supplication for settling debt: "O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision against Your unlawful, and enrich me by Your grace, independently of all others."

3. The supplication before sleeping: "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens, and Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord, and the Lord of everything, Splitter of the grain and the date stone, Revealer of the Torah, the Injīl, and the Furqan, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything You hold by its forelock. You are the First, so there is nothing before You. You are the Last, so there is nothing after You. You are the Most High, so there is nothing above You. You are the Most Hidden, so there is nothing beyond You. Settle our debts and free us from poverty."

4. The supplication of Ya Mu'adh: "O Allah, Possessor of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will, and You take sovereignty from whom You will. You honor whom You will, and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is all good. Indeed, You are over all things competent. The Most Merciful of this world and the Hereafter, You grant them to whom You will and withhold them from whom You will. Have mercy on me, a mercy by which You make me independent of the mercy of anyone other than You."

There is no harm in seeking assistance from organizations that help debtors, as the indebted are among the beneficiaries of zakat.
