Is it permissible to cancel a wedding feast due to a lack of means?
The marriage feast (walimat al-nikah) is a recommended act for the husband and is not obligatory. There is no sin upon him for leaving it, even if he is able to perform it. However, it should not be abandoned altogether. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, held such a feast and commanded it, and it should be according to one's ability. As for the wife, she is not legally obligated to provide it.
