What is the ruling on saying, "May the eye of Allah watch over you"?

There is no harm in a person saying to another, as a supplication, "May the eye of Allah watch over you," with the intention that Allah preserve and care for him. This is based on Allah's saying to Moses: "(and that you be reared under My eye)" Taha/39, and His saying to Muhammad: "(And be patient for the decision of your Lord, for indeed, you are in Our eyes)" At-Tur/48. The exegetes have clarified that the intended meaning is Allah's care, عناية (providence), and preservation. Thus, the ship sails under Allah's care, and Muhammad and Moses, peace be upon them, are under Allah's care, providence, and preservation. This statement is a supplication for Allah's companionship, care, and preservation, while affirming the attribute of the eye for Allah, in a manner befitting His majesty.
