What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding a wife remaining with her husband who has mistreated her for decades, and does this affect the acceptance of her acts of obedience and closeness to Allah, knowing that she desires separation after their children have become independent, and that their marital relationship has been completely severed for thirteen years?

Surgically removing the uterus (sterilization) is Islamically forbidden except in cases of necessity. The wife commits a sin if she undergoes it without necessity, and the sin is greater if the husband is displeased, as it infringes upon his right to procreate. As for the husband, he is not permitted to punish his wife by shunning her for more than three days without a legitimate Islamic reason, especially for 13 years, as this neglects the wife's rights to kind companionship and chastity. The wife may bring her case before a judge and request a divorce or compel the husband to companionship with kindness.
