What is the ruling on a marriage contract that was concluded, and after its completion, it became apparent that the husband belongs to the people of innovation (Ahl al-Bid'a) while the wife is Sunni, knowing that the husband claims not to declare the Companions as disbelievers and not to differentiate between the Sunnis and the people of innovation? And how is this contract to be annulled if necessary, and is it obligatory to inquire about the creed of everyone who wishes to marry?

The ruling on a Muslim woman marrying a non-Muslim, or someone who differs in belief, has been previously clarified. If the woman is ignorant of the man's condition, there is no blame upon her, as people are dealt with based on their outward appearances. The fundamental principle is the continuation of the marital bond between the spouses. However, if it becomes clear to the wife that her husband holds heretical beliefs that constitute apostasy, she may refer the matter to the competent authorities to annul her marriage. There is no validity to the statement that there is no difference between the أهل السنة (People of the Sunnah) and the innovated sects, for there are fundamental differences between them in matters of religion.
