What is the ruling on someone who stole money and donated a portion of it, then the owner of the money forgave him? Is he rewarded for his charity or is he sinful?

Charity from stolen money is not permissible because it is not owned by the thief, and he is liable for it. If the owner of the money pardons and forgives it, then the money becomes the property of the thief. Scholars have differed regarding the validity of charity given from it before this point. Some have validated it, considering the thief's actions contingent upon the owner's approval. Based on this, it is hoped that the reward will be granted and the charity accepted, God willing.
