Is it permissible to combine sitting and standing in prayer for someone who is unable to perform it entirely while standing, and what are the regulations for that?

Standing is a pillar of the obligatory prayer, and the prayer is not valid without it for one who is able to stand, due to the Almighty's saying: "Guard strictly your prayers, especially the middle prayer; and stand before Allah with devotion."
