What is the ruling on benefiting, financially or otherwise, from a pirated computer program, knowing that the user did not pirate it himself?

It is not permissible to copy software protected by intellectual property rights without the owners' permission, because that infringes upon their efforts and finances. This software is considered their property, whether they are Muslims or non-belligerent disbelievers.

However, some scholars have permitted copying it for personal use only when necessary and when unable to purchase the original version, provided that it is not traded or profited from.
