What is the ruling of the religion on drawing in general, and who are the "painters" whom Allah has promised a severe punishment, and are animated films, caricatures, and advertising drawings that include depictions of animals and humans forbidden, or are they subject to intention?

It is unanimously forbidden to sculpt animate beings. Similarly, drawing animate beings by hand on canvases, walls, and clothes is forbidden according to the majority of scholars. As for animated drawings and caricatures, those that depict animate beings fall under the ruling of forbidden depiction of animate beings. However, drawings that are incomplete or lifeless (such as mountains and trees) are not considered among the forbidden depictions.
