Is the Adhan and Iqamah required for someone making up a missed prayer or praying it on time at home?

The Adhan (call to prayer) and Iqama (second call to prayer) are two Sunnahs (prophetic traditions) that are external to the prayer itself. Scholars have differed regarding the Adhan for someone who missed the congregational prayer and wishes to pray alone or with others. The most accurate opinion is that he should not pronounce the Adhan but rather the Iqama and then pray. This is because the Adhan was legislated to announce the entry of the prayer time, to call for congregational prayer, and to raise the banner of Islam. These objectives would have already been achieved by the first congregational prayer. Therefore, the worshipper should only pronounce the Iqama and then pray, whether it is a current prayer or a make-up prayer.
