Is it permissible to look at pictures of men, and what appears of them on screens and in books, and to listen to a man's voice if it is pleasant, in light of the prevalence of vice and my affliction with the obsessive urge to look at what is forbidden?

Discard these whisperings (waswas); for the looking of a woman at non-mahram (definition) men without lust is permissible according to many scholars, and there is no blame upon you for acting upon this, due to the strength of its evidence and because it is easier for you. As for hearing a man's voice, there is no harm in it by consensus if there is no fear of temptation (fitna). So there is no harm upon you in listening to the Qur'an and lectures from shaykhs and men, and what you imagine as temptation is nothing but whisperings (waswas).
