Summary of the Fatwa:

- Ignorance, according to the Hanbalis, is treated similarly to forgetfulness. Thus, whatever is excused due to ignorance is also excused due to forgetfulness. - The Malikis hold that ignorance is not like forgetfulness in acts of worship, and it is not excused. The ignorant person in acts of worship is treated like one who acts intentionally. - According to the Shafi'is, if someone forgets the first tashahhud and remembers it after standing upright, they should not return to it. If they return to it intentionally, knowing it is forbidden, their prayer is invalidated. If they return to it out of forgetfulness or ignorance, it is not invalidated, and they perform the prostration of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw). - According to the Malikis, if someone forgets the first tashahhud and returns to it after standing upright due to forgetfulness, their prayer is valid. The well-known opinion is that it is valid even if they return to it intentionally or out of ignorance, as the ignorant person is treated like one who acts intentionally. - An addition of a non-prayer related action during prayer, if done out of ignorance: If it is minor, there is no consequence. If it is extensive, it invalidates the prayer. The determination of what is extensive and what is minor is left to common practice (urf).
