Is it permissible for an agent to take a fee in exchange for collecting dues?
It is permissible to appoint an agent for matters involving money and for those that do not. The proof for appointing an agent for matters not involving money is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed Unaise to carry out the prescribed punishment on the woman, and Urwah al-Bariqi to purchase a sheep. The proof for appointing an agent for matters involving money is Allah’s saying: (And those employed to collect [zakat] and distribute it) [At-Tawbah/60], concerning the collection and distribution of zakat.
