What is the ruling on greeting the mosque and the Imam on the minbar, and is it forbidden in the Maliki madhhab? What is the ruling on performing two voluntary rak'ahs after the Friday prayer? "Tahiyyat al-Masjid" (greeting the mosque) during the Friday sermon is a Sunnah commanded by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as stated in the hadith narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both. However, it is considered forbidden by the Malikis, who believe their evidence is stronger. Among their proofs is the hadith about the man who stepped over people's necks, whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded to sit down without performing rukoo’ (bowing), and the hadith, "If you say to your companion, 'Be quiet,' while the Imam is delivering the sermon, you have engaged in idle talk." As for performing two rak'ahs of voluntary prayer after the Friday prayer, it is a Sunnah. The disagreement among scholars on these issues stems from the differing evidences and methods of deduction. This should not lead to animosity or dispute, for each of them will be rewarded; the one who is correct receives two rewards, and the one who errs receives one reward.
