Is it obligatory for me to go to the restroom and attempt to expel gas before every prayer, knowing that I suffer from uncontrolled flatulence and perform ablution for each prayer after its time has begun, and most of the time I expel nothing, and I find this a hardship?

If a person suffers from uncontrollable flatulence to the extent that they do not find enough time to perform prayer with proper purity, then they must perform ablution (wudu') for each prayer after its time has begun, and pray with that ablution the obligatory (fard) prayer and any supererogatory (nawafil) prayers they wish. They are not required to go to the restroom when performing ablution. It is sufficient for them to perform ablution immediately after the prayer time begins if they do not need to relieve themselves, and they are not required to perform ritual cleansing (istinja') for the release of gas.
