Is marital intimacy between spouses during the daytime in Ramadan after Fajr prayer forbidden? And is the day to be made up, and is charity to be given? And what is the meaning of expiation (kaffarah)?

Sexual intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan is forbidden for fasting spouses. They must repent to Allah and make up for that day. Expiation (freeing a slave, if unable then fasting for two consecutive months, if unable then feeding sixty poor people) is obligatory only upon the husband if both were aware of the prohibition. However, if they were ignorant of the prohibition because they live in an environment where ignorance prevails among its people, then neither making up the day nor expiation is required of them.
