Does hesitation in breaking the fast while fasting affect the validity of the fast?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a fasting person firmly intends to break their fast, their fast is invalidated, and they must make up for it. However, if they waver in their intention and do not firmly decide, scholars have differed regarding the invalidation of their fast. The Hanafis and Shafi'is hold that their fast is not invalidated, which is the more probable view, because the default is the continuation of the fast. This is also the fatwa given by Sheikh Ibn 'Uthaymeen and Sheikh Ibn Jibreen.
