What is the ruling on holding banquets for food at a condolence gathering?

Holding feasts at condolences is a reprehensible innovation (bid'ah munkarah) that has no basis in Islamic law, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "Whoever introduces into this affair of ours anything that does not belong to it, it is to be rejected." The Companions considered gathering for the family of the deceased and preparing food after burial to be among the forbidden forms of wailing (niyāḥah).
