What is the ruling on one who utters a word by which he does not intend to abuse Islam, and is he considered a disbeliever, and is there hope for him to repent, and how does he repent?

A Muslim must guard his tongue, for the ills of the tongue are destructive, and a person may fall into the Fire because of a word, or Allah may decree His wrath upon him due to it. If a servant utters an objectionable word unintentionally, or it slips from his tongue, or he is forced to say it, then Allah has forgiven him. As for one who utters a word of disbelief or offense, knowing its meaning and intending it as a jest, play, or mockery, he has disbelieved by that, and his belief is not considered anything. He must offer sincere repentance to Allah, cease such words, and increase in acts of obedience.
