What is the method of repentance for one who falsely accused another, leading to their dismissal from work and their wife's defiance, and is it permissible for the wronged person to seek financial compensation for the damage incurred?
Whoever unjustly accuses someone and causes them material and moral harm, must repent to Allah and seek forgiveness from the wronged person.
He must remove the moral harm by clearing the wronged person's name with those to whom he accused him, and remove the material harm by striving to return his wife to him. If this is not possible, he must pay the dowry of a woman like her.
Similarly, he must strive to reinstate him in his job. If this is not possible, he must financially compensate him for the harm resulting from his dismissal.
Harm is remedied by fining the oppressor the value of the damaged item if a like item cannot be found.
