What is the ruling on saying "May your Lord gladden you" or "May your Lord gladden you all" or "May Allah gladden [him/her/them]"?

It is not permissible to say, "May your Lord or your Lords be happy," or "May God be happy," because Allah Almighty is the Bestower of happiness and its Giver, and He is not prayed for it. Such a statement implies a deficiency in His right, Exalted be He. Similar to this is the Prophet's (peace be upon him) prohibition of saying, "Peace be upon Allah," clarifying that Allah is Peace, and that peace is sought from Him, not for Him. Thus, happiness is sought from Allah for the needy servant, and Allah is independent of all creation; He gives and is not given to. The correct expression to use for someone for whom happiness is desired is: "May Allah make you happy" or "May Allah make you happy."
