Is one who missed a rak'ah included in the virtue of the first row, or is that virtue exclusive to whoever caught the opening takbeer?
Whoever reaches the first row has attained its virtue, even if they miss the opening takbir or part of the prayer, because attaining the first row's virtue does not necessitate catching the opening takbir. However, they would miss the virtue of precedence and being present for the opening takbir. This is supported by the : "If people knew what was in the call to prayer and the first row, and they found no other way to get it except by drawing lots, they would draw lots for it." Al-Qurtubi mentioned in "Al-Jami' li Ahkam al-Qur'an" that whoever arrives after zawal (midday) and takes a place in the first row has missed the virtue of praying at the beginning of the time, but they have still attained the virtue of the first row and being near the Imam.
