Is it permissible to marry over the internet?

Methods of acquaintance via the internet, such as "I want a husband" websites, are gateways that lead to many corruptions, including misinformation, fraud, and the absence of legitimate endorsement for both parties. The lawful path to marriage begins with inquiring about the girl, then communicating with her family, then the legitimate viewing, and thereafter approval or rejection. As for using the internet for romantic correspondence and exchanging photos under the pretext of searching for a partner, it is not permissible in Islamic law and is considered a pretext for great evils and corruption.
