How can truth be distinguished from falsehood amidst the spread of erroneous concepts, and is this imbalance in concepts specific to our time or does it have precedents throughout history?

It is incumbent upon a believer to learn what makes his creed, worship, and dealings sound, to inquire about what is unclear to him, and to strive to understand the words of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, to ponder over them, and to gain deep understanding in them according to the methodology of the Salaf, so that the truth becomes clear to him and he adheres to it and invites to it with wisdom, gentleness, and patience. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed us of the occurrence of conceptual distortions, the lifting of trustworthiness, the believing of liars, and the branding of the trustworthy as traitors, but the religion remains قائم (standing firm) and a group will always remain upon the truth. It is the duty of scholars to clarify, advise, and guide. They may be permitted to remain silent or offer private advice when fearing harm, but they are not permitted to alter or change the religion.
