Is it permissible to apply the term "Nabi" (prophet) to those who are not prophets, and is it permissible to name oneself "Nabi"?

The word "Nabi" (Prophet) in Arabic has multiple linguistic meanings, such as a high place or a path. Naming someone with this word is not prohibited based on these linguistic meanings. However, the immediate understanding when this word is used is its technical, specialized meaning, which refers to someone who receives revelation from Allah. Therefore, it is necessary to refrain from using this name due to the illusion it creates. If the intended meaning of the name is the technical one – that the named person is a prophet who receives revelation – then this is disbelief (kufr) by the consensus of Muslims, because there is no prophet after Muhammad, peace be upon him. What is deemed correct is the prohibition of this naming.
