What are the best types of charity for the deceased: donating to a mosque or to a needy family? Is donating to an existing mosque considered an ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah)? What supplications (Du'as) are made for the deceased, and is it permissible to supplicate with the wording mentioned: "Give to the deceased from the best of what You gave to Your Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, a gift that never ceases, from Your treasures of the heavens and the earth. A great gift, from a Great Lord. A gift that You are worthy of, befitting the majesty of Your countenance and the greatness of Your dominion"?

The best charity on behalf of the deceased is perpetual charity (sadaqah jariyah), such as digging a well, building mosques, educational centers, and hospitals, due to their continuous benefit and great reward.

Also, giving charity to a needy family has a great reward and reaches the deceased. If building mosques conflicts with giving charity to the needy, then the more urgent need takes precedence.

If it is possible to make the charity for the needy family perpetual – such as a farm or a house that is rented out – that is better.

Charity given to an existing mosque that needs expansion or repair is considered perpetual charity.

As for supplication (du'a) for the deceased, any formula that conveys mercy and seeking forgiveness is valid. However, it is best to adhere to what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, such as: "O Allah, forgive him, and have mercy on him, and grant him well-being, and pardon him, and make his resting place honorable, and widen his entrance, and cleanse him with water, snow, and hail, and purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and give him a home better than his home, and a family better than his family, and a spouse better than his spouse, and protect him from the trial of the grave and the torment of the Fire."
