The answer

If the dwelling is owned by the husband, he has the right to prevent his wife's mother or anyone else from residing in it, whether his wife is still married to him or divorced, unless the divorced wife is entitled to housing, such as during her iddah (waiting period) or if she is the custodian of his children. However, if the mother's residence does not lead to any harm, it is preferable for the husband not to prevent her from residing there, especially if the daughter lives alone and needs someone to keep her company. And if the mother has previously done wrong, it is better to respond to evil with good, as Allah Almighty says: "And let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful."
