The foundation of married life is affection, mercy, good character, and mutual respect, but disagreements can occur. A wife who is mistreated by her husband should be patient and gentle with him, and not escalate the situation. A husband's mistreatment of his wife does not permit her to refuse intimacy, but she can kindly ask him to postpone it. If he refuses, she should accede and seek her reward from God.
