What is the ruling on supervising mixed discussion forums, and what is the ruling on participating in them with one's real name to exchange academic news and Islamic topics?

It is not permissible to establish friendships between men and women online, even if the forum is Islamic, for this is legally forbidden. One must cut off relations with these groups and forums that lead to fitna, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have not left behind me any fitna more harmful to men than women." Furthermore, browsing them may lead to being drawn into and participating in forbidden acts, and Satan may open doors of good to lead one into evil. Therefore, it is advisable to suffice with women's forums free from intermingling, and religious knowledge is not acquired solely from forums.
