Will sins be forgiven due to suffering from a disease one was born with?

It is hoped for the sick person that Allah expiates their sins through their illness, and the majority of scholars specify that illness expiates minor sins. Calamities expiate sins, even a thorn prick, but this does not mean that a believer should indulge excessively in sins, relying on their forgiveness through illness. Rather, they must hope for their Lord's mercy and fear Him, for Allah Almighty said: "Did they then feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the losing people."
