Is Allah's wrath upon one who cannot be silent, speaks excessively out of place, and finds their tongue heavy from uttering what would earn them reward?
Excessive and useless talk is a sign of a sick heart, for the tongue is a scoop of the heart. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the most hateful of you to me and the furthest from me in station on the Day of Resurrection are the chatterboxes." One should guard the tongue from speaking unless there is a clear benefit in it, for silence is safety. Ibn Abbas said: "Speak good, and you will gain; or be silent about evil, and you will be safe." Umar said: "Whoever talks much makes many mistakes." Ali said: "The tongue is the pillar of the body."
