Was the call to prayer (Adhan) known since the time of Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, based on the Almighty’s saying: "And proclaim to the people the Hajj (pilgrimage)"?

There is no validity to the claim made by some that the Adhan (call to prayer) was known to prophets since the time of Adam or Abraham. Rather, the correct view is that the Adhan was legislated during the era of the Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in Madinah. Authentic Ahadith indicate that Muslims in Madinah used to gather for prayer without a call. Then, they consulted each other on a method to gather people for prayer. Some suggested the bell or the horn. Then, Abdullah ibn Zayd had a dream in which he saw the Adhan, so he informed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who then commanded Bilal to call the Adhan accordingly. Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, confirmed that this dream was true.
