What is the ruling on buying shares of non-forbidden companies that require purchase only through banks?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible to buy shares of permissible companies through banks. What usurious banks take in return for this is a permissible brokerage fee, because it is in exchange for a permissible act. Sheikh Al-Uthaymeen explained the permissibility of dealing with banks in permissible matters, and that the only forbidden thing is usury, citing as evidence that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, bought from the Jews and accepted their gifts, despite their consumption of ill-gotten gains and their taking of usury.
