What is the ruling on burdening the party responsible for a car accident with the costs of car repair, and is it permissible to resort to the traffic police, knowing of their corruption?

Praise be to Allah for the safety, and forgiving the one who caused the accident is better than taking retribution from him; as Allah Almighty says: "And that you pardon is nearer to righteousness," and "So whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is due from Allah," and "And if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." Nevertheless, it is the right of the injured party to charge the responsible party for the costs of repair, and they are not obligated to forgive. There is no harm in resorting to the police to obtain one's right.
