Is serving one's mother or acquiring Islamic knowledge better?

The answer varies depending on the circumstances. If there is someone to care for the mother and there is no concern of her being neglected, then it is better to engage in seeking knowledge. But if there is no one and the mother needs care, then it is obligatory to honor her, especially with the availability of means to acquire knowledge such as audio recordings and Qur’an radio stations.
