What is the difference between Al-Hashr (the gathering) and Al-Baʽth (the resurrection)?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Linguistically, "Hashr" (gathering) means congregation. Islamically, it signifies the herding of all people to the Stand (Mawqif) for reckoning. As for "Ba'th" (resurrection), it is Allah Almighty's bringing the dead back to life from their graves on the Day of Resurrection for reckoning. Thus, the difference is that "Ba'th" is the revival after death, while "Hashr" is their herding and gathering in the place of congregation (Mahshar).
